One Web Platform, Three Brands: Multi-Site Architecture for a Dental Group

Let's Connect

Overview

What we built

A dental group running 38 clinics under three brands was maintaining three separate websites on three different stacks. We replaced them with one platform that serves all three brands from a single codebase.

In plain terms: every brand had its own site, its own technology and its own vendor, and the seams showed. Changing a location page meant finding the right supplier for that particular site, the three brands had slowly drifted apart visually, and patients met a different booking experience depending on which site they landed on. When the group acquired a new clinic, simply getting a page live for it took over a month.

We consolidated everything onto one multi-tenant web platform: one codebase, one content system, one place to publish. Each brand kept its own look, domain and voice, but underneath, location pages, provider profiles and booking flows now come from shared templates fed by a single directory of record. Online booking conversion rose from 2.1% to 3.4% of sessions, new clinic microsites launch in 2 days rather than weeks, organic search traffic grew 44% year on year, and median mobile load times on location pages dropped from 5.8s to 1.9s.

The Problem

Three brands, three ageing stacks

The group's 38 clinics traded under three brands, general, orthodontic and paediatric, and each brand had inherited its own website, built at a different time on a different stack. Three codebases meant three sets of quirks, three maintenance arrangements and three different vendors to call whenever a location page needed so much as an updated detail.

The fragmentation was visible to patients as well as staff. Brand styling had drifted apart over years of unconnected changes, and online booking behaved differently on each site, so the experience of booking an appointment depended entirely on which brand's site a patient happened to reach. Nothing about the three sites suggested they belonged to the same group.

Growth made it worse. Launching a page for a newly acquired clinic took over a month, an eternity when that practice's patients are searching for the new owner's details online. The web estate had become a brake on the very expansion it was meant to support.

Three separate stacks

Each brand's site ran on its own technology with its own vendor, so no fix, feature or improvement could ever be made once and shared.

Brand drift

Years of unconnected edits had pulled the three brands' styling apart, weakening the group's identity every time a patient moved between its sites.

Inconsistent booking

Online booking worked differently on each site, so the group's most important conversion path changed shape depending on the brand a patient chose.

Slow clinic launches

Getting a page live for a newly acquired clinic took over a month, delaying the moment new patients could find and book it online.

What it was costing them

Every routine content change carried vendor coordination overhead, multiplied by three. Patients dropped out of booking flows that behaved differently from site to site, and slow mobile location pages meant many never got that far. Meanwhile each acquisition waited over a month for its clinic to have a page at all, unfindable online at exactly the moment its patient base was most uncertain.

The Solution

One multi-tenant brand platform

We built a single multi-tenant web platform to carry all three brands from one codebase and one headless CMS. Multi-tenancy is the load-bearing idea: the brands share every template, component and content structure, while each keeps its own theme, its own domain and its own voice, so patients still meet a distinct general, orthodontic or paediatric brand.

Location pages, provider profiles and booking flows are generated from shared templates, fed by one directory of record that holds every clinic and every provider in the group. Add a clinic to the directory and its pages exist; correct a provider's details once and the change appears wherever that provider is listed, on whichever brand's site.

Publishing moved in-house. Marketing staff now manage content for every site from a single dashboard, with no vendor in the loop for routine changes. The unified booking flow, applied consistently across the three brands, gave the group one conversion path to measure and improve rather than three to reconcile.

Key decisions

01

One codebase, three brands

Rather than three separate rebuilds, a single multi-tenant platform serves every brand, so improvements to templates or booking land across all the sites at once.

02

A directory of record

Clinics and providers live in one structured directory that feeds every location page, profile and booking flow, ending disagreement between sites about basic facts.

03

Themes carry the brands

Each brand's identity is expressed as a theme applied to shared components, keeping three distinct looks without three divergent codebases.

04

One unified booking flow

The same booking experience runs on every site, styled per brand, so patients meet a consistent path however they arrive.

05

Publishing from one dashboard

Marketing staff publish to any of the three sites from a single interface, removing per-site vendors from routine content work entirely.

Measurable Impact

What changed after launch

The consolidated booking flow converted better everywhere: online booking rose from 2.1% to 3.4% of sessions once every brand ran the same unified path. New clinic microsites, previously a project measured in weeks, now launch in 2 days, so an acquired practice appears online almost as soon as it joins the group.

The technical consolidation showed up in search and speed as well. Organic search traffic across the three brand sites grew 44% year on year, and the median mobile load time on location pages fell from 5.8s to 1.9s. The group now runs its whole web estate with one team, one dashboard and one set of templates.

Tech & Tools Used

What powered the build

Every tool below earned its place in this engagement. Here is the part each one played.

Next.js logo

Next.js

Renders all three brand sites from one codebase, generating location pages, provider profiles and booking flows from the shared template set.

React logo

React

Provides the shared component library beneath every template, so a booking step or provider card is built once and themed per brand.

Sanity CMS logo

Sanity CMS

The headless CMS behind the platform: marketing staff edit content here and publish to any of the three brand sites from a single dashboard.

Tailwind CSS logo

Tailwind CSS

Expresses each brand's theme as design tokens over the shared components, keeping three distinct identities consistent on one codebase.

Node.js logo

Node.js

Runs the platform services that connect the CMS, the directory of record and the rendered sites, keeping every template fed with current clinic data.

PostgreSQL logo

PostgreSQL

Holds the directory of record for clinics and providers, the single structured source every location page and booking flow reads from.

Vercel logo

Vercel

Hosts and deploys the multi-tenant platform, serving all three brand domains from the same build with preview environments for every change.

Cloudflare CDN logo

Cloudflare CDN

Caches pages and assets close to patients across the region, part of bringing mobile location-page load times down.

Google Analytics 4 logo

Google Analytics 4

Measures booking conversion and organic search performance across the three brand sites, giving the group one view of how the consolidated platform performs.
